Tim Street-Porter
British born Tim
Street-Porter is an internationally recognized photographer
who lives and works in Los Angeles, with a second home in
Connecticut. He began his career in London. In 1967, he went
to Paris to photograph some interiors and inflatable furniture
and sold his work to Queen Magazine which gave him a 5 page
spread. Street-Porter spent 10 years working in London before
visiting Los Angeles in early ‘70’s. He fell in
love with LA and decided to make it his home in 1977.
Tim Street-Porter is unique
among photographers in that he not only applauded for his
architect’s eye but also for his interest in writing
about design. He has worked for a variety of design and travel
magazines including: House Beautiful, Elle, Décor,
the New York Times, Town & Country and Conde Nast Traveller.
In addition, Street-Porter has written and produced four books
on architecture. Freestyle, the New Architecture & Design
of Los Angeles, and Casa Mexicana: the Architecture and Design
of Mexico were published by Stewart, Tabori and Chang. The
Los Angeles House and Tropical Houses were published by Clarkson
Potter.
In 1997, the Los Angeles
Times best described Tim Street Porter when referring to his
twice crowned position as "one of LA’s coolest
people," according to Buzz Magazine. "After L.A.
slips into the ocean and disappears forever, people will remember
it primarily through the images of Street-Porter."
